Jewelry is a favorite gift idea to give or receive. Whether the jewelry is costume or the finest gold and diamonds, everyone loves a little bling-bling. This is a gift that almost any woman and many, many men can enjoy.

Gifts of jewelry can range in price from a few dollars into the hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more. Those who are fortunate enough to be able to purchase anything they desire can spend millions of dollars on jewelry. For most people, however, a gift budget constrains exactly what jewelry can be given.

The exact jewelry selected depends largely on the recipient and their relationship to the giver. The jewelry a man gives to his wife is much different than the jewelry a teen age girl gives to another young lady who is also in high school. Not only will the prices probably differ drastically, but how personal a gift is appropriate will also differ.

A man should have no problem coming up with a gift idea of jewelry for his wife. Most women love anything with diamonds. Whether the diamonds are large or small, many or few, the very idea of receiving a girl’s best friend is thrilling. Of course, the larger the better but most husbands must stay within a gift budget. Frequently, a husband will chose a ring, earrings or a necklace for his beloved wife. A tennis bracelet is another jewelry gift that can be quite affordable since the stone

A teen may give a girl with whom she is friends costume jewelry such as earrings, bracelets, anklets, a necklace or even a small ring. Scatter pins and brooches for dressing up outfits are also a nice gift idea.

A wonderful gift for a mother is a mother’s ring. This ring contains a birthstone from each of the mother’s children, creating a unique ring all her own. Another popular mother’s gift is a mother’s necklace which has a birthstone embellished charm in the shape of a girl or boy for each child. Mothers also love necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pins and broaches. In fact, mothers love almost anything one of her children gives her in the line of jewelry!

Fathers, husbands and boyfriends can enjoy nice gifts of jewelry as well. Some men simply do not like and refuse to wear jewelry, but other men really love the shine and sparkle of a little bling. Bracelets and neck chains are the most frequently given men’s jewelry gifts. Watches are considered to fall into this area as well.

You can find a jewelry gift for just about anyone you might need to purchase a gift for. Even babies can receive the gift of jewelry. Little girl babies are often given a bracelet or necklace by a family member. Baby rings are another great gift idea for the littlest ones on your list.

Cinco de Mayo, or the Fifth of May, is a day that is celebrated all over the world, but was begun as a celebration to honor Mexico?s Independence from Spain. Now, people of all nationalities celebrate Cinco de Mayo by decorating with plenty of flowers, the colors of Mexico?s flag (green white and red) putting on sombreros, Mexican folk music, salsa, or mariachi music, and joining the fiestas!

Invitation Ideas

For Cinco de Mayo invitations, you can cover white card stock with greeting suggestions like, No time for a Siesta, it’s time to Fiesta!, Margaritas & Fajitas!, It’s Party Time, Amigos! You can even print these on your computer, and add graphics like cactus plants, chili peppers, sombreros, and the Flag of Mexico.

In green and red, on the inside write the date, location, time, phone, date, and dress code or costume suggestions. Be sure to ask for an RSVP, so you will be able to plan more easily, knowing approximately how many guests will be present.

Decorations

Simple, colorful decorations, in traditional Red, green & white streamers, do it yourself pinata, maracas, sombreros, red pepper lights, hot pink tissue paper flowers and plenty of other flowers to brighten the fiesta, can turn make your celebration more authentic, and truly honors the Cinco de Mayo tradition.

Music

Latin or Mexican folk music & mariachi are traditional for these celebrations, but popular Latino or Mexican performer?s music can be added in as well. It is great to form a conga line and dance and sing along with the music. Food

Corn chips with salsa & queasy, tacos, chili, fajitas, Margaritas, Daiquiris, Cerveza, Mexican wines, Tia Maria, and, of course, lots of Tequila is sure to make the celebration a hit. Party Favor Ideas

Mini cactus plants, toy maracas, small clay pots with candy Red Hots, bouquet of red, green & white carnations or other plants that combine the colors of the Mexican flag, or even small Mexican flags can be given as party favors. Most Cinco de Mayo party supplies can be found at local Mexican shops, groceries, or can be purchased online.

One final suggestion for your Cinco de Mayo celebration is to make it a block party where the guests can form conga lines from one yard to the next, taking advantage of the music, food, and drinks available over the neighborhood, and making everyone a participant in the Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Valentine?s Day brings the blues for a lot of people. Specially when single. The day for Romance, and Love has been so commercialized. Everything on that day is geared towards couples… Happy couples! Valentine?s day is also a day for friendship. A day where you can extend gratitude and love to others and yourself. Chase the blues away and make your Valentine?s Day a very special day.

1 ? Pamper your friends and tell them how much they mean to you and how much you love them. You could send them a Valentine card, flowers with a special note, cook them dinner, take them to a movie or take them out. Go to a play or a concert together. Have fun and a good time.

2 ? Send a Valentine card to your parents and spend some quality time with them. Yes there is Mother?s day and father?s day but isn’t something even more wonderful when it is unexpected? Take them out, cook them dinner or treat them to something they always wanted to do. After all it is a day to celebrate Love.

3- Treat yourself and have a nurturing and wonderful time. We often wait for others to make us feel good. The truth is no one can really make us feel good but ourselves. So on Valentine take a day off, pamper and love yourself. You deserve it.

Make it a special day for you. Maybe this is the one day when you are totally selfish.

Go to spa and have a full body massage. Take some time off just for you where you can do what you want to do. No time no schedule, total freedom. ? And book it in advance.

4- With a group of single friends, get together and do something unique, outrageous or daring. Something you will remember for along time.

5- Go online and find a Valentine date for a day, a year or for ever. If you are longing for a partner pick one of the above suggestion first, it will put a smile on your face and your heart. Then go online and send your message in cyberspace. You will be coming from a happy and serene place, versus needy and demanding. Dating online works well providing you apply a few rules and use the right dating site.

What happened to 2005? Didn?t we just have Christmas and New Years? I?m still processing what happened at Christmas 2004!

Last year I discovered that there are LifeSaver candy canes and precooked half turkeys. I also noticed that the ornaments and decorations that I have been buying for the last few years has grown into quite a collection. Major projects had been completed before the holiday break and I wasn?t pressed for time. I could decorate my house and enjoy my Christmas tree.

I could send out my holiday greeting cards on time and in the right spirit. Christmas 2004 was the first time I managed to pull off the whole thing without a hitch. Even as a single person, I could have a full, unique holiday season with dignity. My life would never be the same.

In 2004, I was able to accept and decline invitations with my head held high. I had my own plans. Things to do, people to see, a nativity scene with a little light to turn on when the sun went down. Sympathy wasn?t necessary. I was not a prodigal, but an independent woman making her own traditions.

During a flight back from one of our external campuses, I gave my seat to a little girl so she could get a sky view of the Christmas lights in Lubbock. The magic of Christmas and the magic of childhood are made for each other.

My growing collection of Christmas sweaters allowed me to dress the part for a week and a half leading to the holiday. One of my resolutions was to have enough sweaters for two weeks in 2005. Some day I would have a different sweater for each day of December. Reindeers, bells, sleighs, snowmen, I was open to all of the options. I found out that velour was much easier to maintain than velvet. I rediscovered my love of fur collars. There is a whole section in the closet just for sparkly stuff. Who knew the holidays had so many levels and facets? I could handle it!

I was feeling really good about myself, then something happened. In fact, a lot of things happened. The next thing I knew it was time to do it all again. I picked up my Halloween candy at Family Dollar this year and found it next to Santa Claus mugs. The season for pumpkins and orange, fall leaves lasted about a week! It was time to talk turkeys again and choose recipes for the annual covered dish parties. People were already wearing their holiday sweaters and ties!

The drive back from Dallas this Thanksgiving left me tired. The tradition of decorating the house over the Thanksgiving weekend could be put off until 2006. After all, its just me here and I don?t mind. It won?t hurt anything to put the tree up the next weekend. I noticed something on the news about sending out holiday cards in time for Christmas. My impression is that you have around ten days to work with. I put my address book on standby.

Then I got an email from Amazon.com. They offer free shipping and guaranteed delivery before Christmas if I order by mid-December. They used to just sell books, now they sell everything. Cool, one stop shopping and I still have a week or two to work it out.

I have a two week break for the holiday and a major project to finish. Maybe I can play Christmas music in the background. This year is not working out like I thought.

Other people seem to be on top of things. The lights are up, the music is playing and the Christmas spirit is everywhere. I saw a ?Happy Birthday, Jesus? sign that gave me some perspective. It is not about me and how many traditions I can manage from year to year. It is about celebrating what we believe. My beliefs about the routines that make Christmas official are officially bogus. I?ll be lucky to get half as much done as I did in 2005, but I will celebrate anyway.

Christmas decorations that adorn the front of your home send out an important message. It tells your visitors they are welcome into a home that has the Christmas spirit. Not only does it convey that message to your visitors but also to the passers by.

When you gift wrap your front door it makes your whole house look like a special gift. To do that you will need a lot of wrapping paper and ribbon. Start from the top of the door and run the paper to the bottom.

Use the wide transparent package tape on the top and the sides. Make sure the complete door is covered. Tape the paper under the door. The door should look like one large piece of wrapping paper. It really does not cost much either.

Tape the ribbon to the door. Use the model of the cross. Tape a large bow in the center. Always remember security first. Gingerly cut a big enough hole around the peephole.

Use poster board and a marker to wish all a Merry Christmas. Make the poster board look like a gift tag hanging from the bow. Use stiff cardboard and cut out a snowman shape. Paint it white and decorate the snowman with a hat tipped to the side and a scarf.

Depending on the amount of front yard space that you have, you could put Santa and some reindeer near the front of the house. Then scatter brightly colored wrapped gifts over the yard. Off course the gifts will be empty wrapped boxes.

Make sure that lights adorn and guide the way to your front door. Get a small computer connection that will make the lights dance in peculiar ways. Do not forget garland and candycane. They must go somewhere. Place extra lighting around steps to make them safer.

By now your front yard looks very festive. However, a word must now be said about safety. No one want any injuries or accidents over the christmas holidays.

Only use lights that specify they are for outdoor use. This could be especially dangerous as it generally rains and snows at this time of year.

Your christmas lights have been away for a year. Check for loose or exposed wires. Sockets that may heat up too fast. Watch those extension cords. We all tend to use the wrong guage of extension cord. Remember to turn the lights off when you retire for the night.

If you live in an apartment complex you may want to ask the apartment manager for permission to place christmas decorations on the outside.

You should be able to gift wrap your apartment door. It still sends a positive message to your apartment neighbours. Do you have any trees in your front yard? Decorate them with ornaments and lights.

If children are present it is imperative that they are involved with the decorating. After all, christmas has a lot to do with children when we consider the Christ Child.

Christmas time is about sharing, giving, and love. As parents, lets do our level best to nurture an atmosphere of the christmas spirit all year round.

Christmas is a time for family. Do you feel that the christmas spirit has become drowned out? Have we as parents lost some control over our families? Lets get it back. Lets have fun again with our families. Grab this link here: christmas.

The Sun proudly mounted from behind the mountains Demanding the moon to go home and rest in its own coolness Failing to realize that I briskly woke up way before its rise Impatiently waiting for this inestimable precious day.

A day for which the globe waits
Not to vainly look for the inexistent Santa
But to make the invisible Christ
Visible at heart with transparency.

My feet led my chilly body outside my house
For me to admire the beauty of the nature
Where the houses are decorated with the color
Of the heart of Jesus which is nothing but Snow.

There is a man in front of every house
Greeting the people on the street
Only to receive no smile on their lips
Making him wonder even though he is a Snowman.

I walked along the street as I remembered my night prayer
?Lord, how many more years should I tolerantly wait
For your glimpse gorgeous and your smile contagious
With the shine in your eyes which brings the same in my eyes?

You were so visible then and more invisible now
What made your divine form hide from me?
Is it due to my sins small or my mistakes big?
I?m tired after years 30 of my life to search for you.

I cry and I cry until I decay like hopeless clay
People decry and decry seeing me mad for you
I neither wish for the riches nor wish for life happy
I wish for thee; I wish to feel you in my heart.

My prayer is meant to be answered
But never intended to be unobserved
You hardly seem to be bothered
What makes you feel I?m not deserved??

Drops of water ran down my cheeks
It is not the snow which has melted
But the outcome of my melted heart
Which in all my life I never dealt.

My feet didn?t accompany my thought to step ahead
And they paved way to a serene alleyway
They forced my eyes to look at something deep
That kept moving and watching as I moved close.

It is a man but not really a man
It was the Snowman that smiled at all
With a smile of hope I looked at him
To find two moving eyes deep within the snow.

The two little eyes are filled with care
They shine like stars bright and bright
As the two cute lips joined in pair
To be seen by me and to smile at me.

It is now that my eyes are filled with the shine
As they saw my Christ in the snowman
It is now that my heart is solaced and fine
As it felt the selfless and incessant love of a kind.

What Thanks can I render Christ?
For the glimpse thou had graced on me
Every day I will blossom in your love and light
Not one day I will live a life of hopeless night.

You give the love of thousand mothers
You give the care of thousand fathers
You impart the knowledge of thousand teachers
Your ways chosen are innumerable; your ways chosen are inexplicable

What words can I say Christ
Than to wish you ?Happy Birthday?
On this Day of ?Merry Christmas?
Than to live and love you?

?Have faith in your hopes that you will one day meet the Lord you waited and lived for. That is your real Christmas.?- Sharmila Sanka

TRUTH and UNDERSTANDING – An electronic magazine of real knowledge

Millions, perhaps billions of people will once again run full throttle into the upcoming fall and winter holiday seasons of Halloween and Christmas. Many fully acknowledge that the customs of these events are deeply rooted in paganism.

Many take paganism as an ugly word, but it simply means teachings of the nations that did not know the Jewish or Hebrew God of the Bible. An important point to always remember is that the Hebrews or Israelites and not the nations (non Hebrews) were the ones who brought us the knowledge of God. Even in the New Testament we know that Jesus and the Apostles were Israelites. This is why scripture says, You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. So it always comes as a surprise to me that the tail (the nations) tries to wag the dog when it comes to religious knowledge. Yet this is what is commonly allowed in the so-called Christian holidays.

The Catholic encyclopedia seems to struggle somewhere between acknowledging that modern Christianity has incorporated pagan teachings and no it is just a coincidence. A coincidence? When you look at the preponderance of coincidences like a day for all the dead Saints that comes on the heels of an ancient Celtic fire festival called Samhain (notice that this is a nations non Hebrew pagan teaching here) now called Halloween in which we have children dressing as demons, ghosts and skeletons or we shift to Christmas and really examine through some simple web research about the origin of these Bacchanalian or Saturnalia type festivities.

Research the origins of the Yule log, tree, mistletoe, wreaths, greenery, birthdays, gifts, caroling (yes even seemingly innocent Christmas carols are from ancient circle dances dealing with fertility rites of the medieval Celtic countries of Europe) and lights. Bacchanalian festivities also had parties celebrated with drinking and promiscuity orgies and riotousness. The Saturnalia festivities also included exchanging gifts, greenery, lights etc. It is impossible to ignore that we have ties to teachings of the nations or pagans that we have justified just as the Bible says, everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Yet again the Bible says, what communion has light with darkness? But we say we cleaned it all up. Why we Christianized it Lord! Yet again the Bible says, Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!

But some may ask isn?t it all ok. Can?t we just have some fun? Why half the stuff I do isn?t really Christian related, I just do it for fun and I?m not thinking of Christ. I?ve seen these attitudes. They are attitudes of someone who thinks they have some distinguishable alter ego. That somehow we can separate ourselves from ourselves like some type of Jekyl and Hyde. But do you think you can really hide half of yourself from before the Lord? The Bible says, For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord and He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord Therefore all we do is in plain sight of God.

So how dangerous is all this? Well this is what I call mixing of religions or religious practices. Though it appears to be innocent by most, truly it is the most dangerous of all sins. Believe it or not this is something that gets God absolutely furious. Notice God said, do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way. If nothing else notice the word nations in the above. God is saying do not adapt the practices of the nations. In another example from the book of Ezekiel we read, Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here, to make Me go far away from My sanctuary? What was this sanctuary? Why it was God?s temple back in the Old Testament. What were they doing to drive God far from His Temple? Well a further read says they were doing things like bringing in, every sort of creeping thing, abominable beasts, and all the idols, the Bible says the, women were sitting there weeping for Tammuz. (It is known that there were ancient pagan religions that practiced weeping. Tammuz was an agricultural god who got weak as summer waned on and we all know how we get sad as summer nears its end, so they wept) and the Bible reads, twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, and they were worshiping the sun toward the east (hey look it?s a first Easter sunrise worship.)

The point of all this is that it all occurred in God?s temple. They had stained, soiled, desecrated and defiled the Temple of God by bringing in the ways and teachings of the nations, the pagans, those who did not have a knowledge of proper worship of the true God. After all, why do you think they were called pagans? Because they were stupid, get it? And why is it that their knowledge is so great now that it is brought into Christianity? Because we are stupid I guess. Belittling God?s Temple is not relegated just to the Old Testament. I?m sure we all remember how infuriated Jesus became when He encountered the merchandising in the Temple and made a whip and started to crack some heads. Some things are just off limits.

But now for the biggie because there is a scripture that we need to look long and hard at which says, Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. Defiling our human temple here is no different than all we just read about defiling the physical one. Simply intermix paganism, mix in the bad with the good and you are defiled. As a matter of fact if you mix in any ways of any kind of disobedience you are on your way to defilement and utter destruction.

Disobedience leads to destruction, but obedience and a humble spirit leads one to salvation. It is your disobedience that caused Christ to have to die for our sins (our disobedience) so why do we think it is ok to continue to disobey? Now that you have learned nothing from paganism, for what did you learn from the Yule log or dressing your child up as an Easter egg? Why not learn from God about His holidays? Most people do not even know that God also has Holidays (Holy Days). Well He does and there are seven of them that He commands us to observe.

Are you conflicted over enjoying the holidays by indulging in the bountiful foods set before you versus honoring your commitment to a healthier life by way of weight loss surgery? I know for me the abundance of food and Yuletide cheer seems at times overwhelming. Here are a few strategies to consider before noshing your way to eater?s remorse:

- Forget the notion that holidays are for overindulging. Your WLS isn?t taking a holiday vacation, neither should you.

- Assume that certain foods WILL make you sick (vomiting or dumping). Just because it hasn?t made you sick before does not mean it will not make you sick today. Always assume the worst and avoid dangerous foods (sweets, high starch carbohydrates and dairy)

- Enjoy seasonal treats in moderation. Foods you can have anytime of year are not worth the holiday pouch space ? indulge only in those once-a-year treats (low-fat sugar-free eggnog or mulled cider sound good right now).

- Avoid salty foods ? they aren?t good for you, they cause dehydration, they cause grazing and over-consumption. Why bother?

It sounds trite and we?ve said it all our dieting lives: ?Nothing Tastes as Good As Thin Feels? – - This time, with WLS, the ?thin? is for real. Give yourself the chance to enjoy your weight loss without the eater?s remorse.

?Tis the season for? unwanted gifts?!

Whatever you celebrate throughout the winter holiday season (that?s my stab at fitting into these politically correct times), there are plenty of gift exchanges going on. When it comes to gift giving our loved ones have good intentions, but sometimes they just don?t get it right (a good poker face comes in handy at times like these).

I like to call this the Unwanted Gift Syndrome. Symptoms of this infliction include:

?Psychedelic sweaters with dancing reindeer
?Bobble-head dolls of political figures
?Homemade arts and crafts
?Purple and orange argyle socks

They may say that it?s the thought that counts, but what really counts is getting something that you can actually use. Instead of standing in line at the return counter, tossing in the trash receptacle, or storing away to gather dust (and later brought out when the gift giver drops in for a visit), you could consider using these unwanted items as a means to get what you really wanted. What might not be your cup-of-tea could be a treasure to someone else.

You can have a post-holiday party for you and your friends, at which everyone brings an unwanted gift for an exchange. White elephant exchange games are great for things like this. You could also utilize online barter sites, like SwapThing.com, to list your item and see if it piques the interest of someone who may have something you want.

Not all gifts fall into the realm of our expectations, but after feigning excitement for these unique treasures, you don?t have to live with them forever. We all have differing tastes, so you never know who might find that inner beauty you just don?t see.

SwapThing http://www.swapthing.com is a site focused on building a strong swap community online. The ShareThing http://www.swapthing.com/user/Nonprofit.jsp program helps non-profits get access to item & cash donations as well as volunteers and professional services.

With all the tempting food available in December, it’s difficult to resist eating too much – yet if you don’t you’ll regret it later. One or two bouts of over-indulgence won’t make much difference but if you throw in the towel for the whole month you’ll end up quite a few pounds heavier in January.

But how do you resist when there is so much on offer? And without feeling that you’re missing out? Here are 10 tips to guide you through the holidays.

1. Have what you really want

When you’re faced with wall-to-wall goodies, don’t feel that you have to get your nutrition before you indulge. You’ll only end up with more calories than your body needs. In other words, if you know you’re going to have the apple pie, don’t fill up on meat and potatoes and then have it! One occasion is not going to make you malnourished.

2. Take three bites

If the chocolate cake looks good but you know 800 calories is not going to look great on your hips, have a tiny piece. Have three bites, eat them as slowly as you can and really taste what you’re eating. Satisfy your taste buds without wolfing down a huge portion.

3. Quality counts

Instead of buying cheap fattening treats at Christmas indulge yourself and your family with the best delicacies you can afford. Buy the best and treat yourself that way rather than picking your way through a mountain of unmemorable junk.

4. If you lapse

If you do over-indulge, don’t give up all semblance of watching what you eat for the whole festive period. It’s only one meal, one snack and you’re unlikely to have done much damage. Just go right back to eating when you’re hungry and stopping when you’re full – right from your next meal.

5. Pace yourself

If you’re going to a party or dinner later don’t starve yourself or you’ll fall ravenously on the buffet table or bread basket. Do, however, eat moderately during the day with lower calorie but filling foods. Have soup and bread or salad and a baked potato for lunch and have a small snack such as an apple or some toast later in the afternoon so that you don’t arrive too hungry at the party.

6. Stay away

Whatever you do don’t position yourself near the buffet table – you’ll nibble all night. Put one or two things on a plate and get away from there – you can always go back if you’re still hungry. By the same token don’t leave snack foods lying around at home. Put them out of sight as much as you can.

7. Keep busy

The more you do the less time you’ll have to sit around eating, so get busy around the house (you can make it spick and span for Santa). Get all your preparations done early so that you’re less stressed and less likely to turn to food to soothe your frazzled state.

8. Plan ahead

No matter how much you have to do, make sure you take a few minutes out of your schedule to plan your meals each day. It would be even better if you could organise yourself to do this on a weekly basis. If you don’t plan your meals you’ll end up eating out or calling for take-away more than is good for you. Also if you know you’ve got big meals or parties on particular days plan some lighter meals (but not starvation rations) on the days before and after to help balance out the amount you are eating.

9. Low calorie options

If you are in charge of cooking use all the tricks you know to reduce the calories of the food you provide without reducing the flavour. Look up some low-calorie versions of the dishes you normally cook online and use these. Or try some new lighter recipes. They may be an improvement on what you usually cook. Your family and guests will think that you are serving them something special rather than something low-calorie. In any case provide alternatives for any particularly fattening dishes – fruit salad as well as Christmas pudding for example. Your health conscious guests will thank you.

10. Be Mindful

We put so much in our mouths without thinking about it, without even noticing it or enjoying it. This is easy to do with so much food available and lying out on display. Make sure that whatever you eat, you serve it properly. Put it on a plate or in a bowl, sit down and enjoy it. Even if you intend to do this, you’ll catch yourself nibbling from packets, standing up in the kitchen or whatever – but awareness is half the battle – just notice how much you do this so that you can gradually start to change this habit.
